The team was meant to be testing out tackles, centers, safetys, and one or two inside linebackers at the yearly rite of passage for draft prospects.
The Steelers, however, were mesmerized by the flash and dash of a shiny sports automobile somewhere in the middle of the NFL Combine’s 40-year-dashes and cone drills.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound curves and chrome of one of the top receivers in the 2024 draft are said to have drawn their attention. Rome Odunze is his moniker. He recently finished two consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards for the Washington Huskies, the runners-up in the National Championship.
The question is if the Steelers’ interest in Odunze is really a fleeting fad that will go away as soon as General Manager Omar Khan and Coach Mike Tomlin.
