The Pittsburgh Steelers signed three free agent inside linebackers by the end of the offseason the previous year. However, it is anticipated that general manager Omar Khan would prioritize the position once more this offseason when it comes to free agency. This may be particularly the case given that on March 5, the Miami Dolphins released veteran Jerome Baker.
After Baker’s release, Mark Kaboly of The Athletic voiced a great deal of confidence on X (previously Twitter) that Baker will be a top target for the Steelers in free agency.
Kaboly said, “Would not be shocked if Steelers brought in Jerome Baker at ILB.” “In all honesty, I think there’s a good chance.”

On March 5, Josh Carney of Steelers Depot and Alan Saunders of Steelers Now also connected the Steelers to Baker.
As a new-age linebacker with excellent sideline-to-sideline speed and range as well as outstanding coverage abilities, Baker caught the attention of the Steelers after graduating from Ohio State, according to Carney. “He has thrived as a 3-down linebacker, consistently scoring 60 or higher (in Pro Football Focus player grades) in coverage, including 70 or higher the last two seasons. He has five interceptions in his career.”
Prior to the 2023 season, Baker inked a $37.5 million, three-year contract extension with the Dolphins. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Miami dropped Baker in order to save nearly $10.
